Avery Dennison, the global leader in materials science and manufacturing, has partnered with Gmund, the paper mill known for premium embossing, to release a new collection of highly decorative papers, made from 50% post-consumer waste, for distinctive wine and spirit labelling solutions.

For brands with a story ready to jump off the bottle, the newly released Graduate Collection offers sustainably sourced, premium label papers with highly decorative embossing.

“We worked closely with Gmund to create textures that reflect the feeling of exploration and adventure that comes from graduating one chapter of life and starting a new one.” says Monda van Eijl, Senior Product Manager Wine & Spirits at Avery Dennison. “The collection gives brands a new, distinctive way to enrich the story they tell on their label and signals the premium quality of the product inside.”

The Graduate Collection introduces three white, uncoated matt wood-free papers for wines, spirits, cosmetics, food, and drink.

  • rSiena Bianco - Eye-catching embossing with a unique geometric design

  • rSorbonne Blanc - Nature-inspired embossing with ripples like flowing water

  • rOxford White -  Canvas embossing that evokes thoughts of vintage books

The papers have an excellent whiteness level and print quality in offset and UV Flexo printing. The collection is available in low minimum order quantities for small batch production.

Sustainably Sourced Materials

Made of 50% post-consumer waste, the papers in the Graduate Collection have been designed to not only be beautiful, but also sustainable. The papers are Gmund ECO certified, which requires them to be manufactured following the novel ecological standards enforced by the paper mill. The four pillars of this Gmund Environmental Charter are:

  • Water - Recycled water is collected and reused several times in the manufacturing process, reducing water consumption by up to 70%

  • Raw Materials - FSC® certified papers created with sustainably sourced materials

  • Waste - All production waste is separated and, whenever possible, recycled

  • Energy - Up to 75% of energy is produced without CO2 emissions through use of natural resources of production such as waterpower and heat recovery

The unique textures and versatility of the materials opens the door to new, imaginative branding opportunities. “The Graduate Collection has an excellent print quality that enables brands to create eye-catching details with hot foil, screen printing, debossing, and embossing.” says Monda, “This is combined with a whiteness level that gives designers free reign with their creativity.”
