Avery Dennison expands its range of compostable labels

After launching a portfolio of compostable labels in 2020, we experienced significant demand for an expanded collection from converters and brands interested in eco-friendly packaging solutions. In response, we’re releasing two new paper products:

Both new products are OK Compost certified and approved by the FSC®. Since they are suitable for industrial composting, they’re a natural match for compostable food packaging, coffee cups, ice cream cartons, supermarket bags and more.

MC Primecoat is a white paper with a semi-gloss appearance. Made with SX6030 adhesive, it can be used for general purpose multicolor printing and is approved for direct contact with dry, moist and fatty foods. Thermal 200HD is made with the same adhesive and approved for indirect food contact. It is also suitable for variable information printing and offers enhanced resistance to damage from moisture, oil, UV light exposure and rubbing.

The new labels are the perfect match for compostable food packaging

Where compliance, sustainability targets and happy consumers meet

According to Luuk Zonneveld, product manager, Avery Dennison, the new labels can help companies meet sustainability targets, comply with new policies and appeal to eco-minded consumers.

“Many brands are adopting recycling and sustainable sourcing goals driven by legislation focused on banning single-use plastics,” he says. “Succeeding requires workable solutions, including compostable packaging and labels like these, which break down in the soil and give something back to the Earth.”

“The latest additions to our compostable labels portfolio will make it easier for brands to shrink their carbon footprints without compromising quality. I’m excited to say that with MC Primecoat, we can offer compostable solutions for general purpose print jobs. For tough variable information print conditions, Thermal 200HD is an excellent option. Even when exposed to rubbing, grease and liquids, it stays intact. Both products are also OK Compost certified and have undergone significant testing to ensure compostability.”
