RFID Converting Process

The RFID converting process requires specialized equipment and expertise to ensure the RFID inlays are properly integrated into the labels or tags, maintaining their functionality and performance throughout the product's lifecycle.

Wet Inlay Process

The wet inlay process involves 5 layers: starting with the inlay carrier, then the chip and antenna, followed by the pressure-sensitive adhesive and liner. This method works well with paper, film, adhesive, and liner, but it's not suitable for printing. 

Dry Inlay Process

The dry inlay process involves three layers: the inlay carrier on top, followed by the chip, and the antenna at the bottom. This technique is adaptable to various materials such as paper, film, or fabric, as well as transfer tapes and gum twins that provide adhesive properties.

Chip or Integrated Circuit (IC): This is the "brain" of the inlay, storing the unique identification number and other data associated with the tagged item.

Antenna: The antenna is responsible for receiving radio waves from the RFID reader and transmitting data back to the reader.

Carrier: The substrate acts as a carrier for the chip and antenna, providing structural support and protection. It is often made of PET or paper and can be customized with adhesive backing for easy application.

RFID systems require three components: Tag, hardware, software. Each tag contains a unique identification number that is then linked to additional product data on a secure database.

RFID tags and tickets can therefore identify each individual item.

RFID allows you to read the RFID tag without line of sight, read multiple items hanging on a rack or stacked on a shelf very quickly and read multiple items in a box without opening the packaging. This helps streamline inventory management, prevent losses, and elevate consumer interaction.

RFID capability can be integrated into an existing label conversion process with the addition of an insertion module. Depending on quality control and throughput demands, a more extensive equipment upgrade may be required.
