Avery Dennison Receives APR Critical Guidance for HDPE Plastic

Avery Dennison earned the recognition for its Film pressure-sensitive label materials with a hot melt adhesive for HDPE containers.

MENTOR, OHIO (May 21, 2024) - Avery Dennison has received the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) critical guidance recognition for its film label facestocks paired with hot melt adhesives for HDPE plastic containers. The recognition gives packaging designers new options for recyclability at a time when more brands are looking for ways to boost their sustainability credentials. It also marks Avery Dennison’s 12th critical guidance recognition over the last decade while working with the APR to advance the circular economy.

Recognition extends to all of Avery Dennison’s clear and white BOPP and Machine Direction Oriented (MDO) film facestocks paired with any of the company’s hot melt adhesives when applied to an HDPE substrate. Recognition means packaging designers can be confident that these label constructions have been tested for compatibility with standard HDPE container recycling practices and remained in place without impacting the HDPE recycling process.

“Avery Dennison is again proud to work with the APR and receive critical guidance recognition for our solutions,” says Anh Marella, vice president, Marketing, Avery Dennison Label and Packaging Materials, North America. “We’re committed to providing options for brands and packaging designers that help them align with consumers’ growing demand for more sustainable plastic packaging. Recognition underscores our support of brands’ efforts to increase plastic recycling, boost their sustainability credentials, and contribute to the creation of a circular economy.”

BOPP and MDO films are a popular choice for brands wanting to push label-design aesthetics and create shelf appeal. Hot melt adhesives are used for low temperatures and rough or difficult to label surfaces. These adhesives are also increasingly manufactured with renewable content and our C4510 adhesive has also achieved the USDA’s certification for Biobased Products.
