As a brand owner in the beverage industry, one of the primary challenges you face is creating the optimal balance between aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability in your packaging.

In today's world, sustainable packaging is no longer a choice but a necessity. With growing environmental concerns and increasing consumer demand for eco-friendly solutions, brands are under pressure to adopt practices that minimize waste and promote recycling and reuse, which plays a crucial role in reducing landfill waste, conserving natural resources, and lowering carbon emissions. It’s not just about compliance anymore; it’s about building a reputation for responsibility and environmental stewardship.

Avery Dennison, a leader in labeling and packaging materials with a reputation for innovations that drive sustainable outcomes, offers their latest Wash-Off solution, designed to meet the growing demand for sustainability and cost optimization in glass bottle reuse. This solution ensures returnable glass bottles — used for consumable products such as beer, spirits, wine, and both carbonated and non-carbonated beverages — remain functional, aesthetic, and most importantly, reusable.

Here's how Avery Dennison’s Wash-Off technology changes the game:

  • Reliable Performance: The labels stay firmly in place at point of sale and during consumer use

  • Easy Removal: The labels can be easily removed for continuous reuse in a conventional bottle washer

  • Design Versatility: Available with filmic and paper facestocks for a wide range of designs

  • Compatibility: Functions with a variety of printing techniques including letterpress and flexo

  • Proven Efficiency: Optimized for auto-bottle-washing processes, ensuring seamless reusability

Wash-Off paper labels include wet strength properties, allowing the label to stay undamaged for up to 8 hours submerged in ice. This ensures that the label remains intact while the consumer enjoys a chilled beverage. However, when the bottle is returned to the brand owner, the label can be easily and cleanly removed in the automatic washer using a hot caustic solution.

Their film labels, on the other hand, boast anti-water-whitening properties to retain label clarity in humid conditions, while shrinkage of PETG film during the wash-off process ensures full and clean label removal.

Finally, Wash-Off technology simplifies the process of reusing glass bottles into a five-step procedure:

In the world of beverage branding, where standing out on the shelf is just as crucial as being kind to our planet, Avery Dennison upholds both with Wash-Off technology. You can be ensured that your brand remains eye-catching and eco-friendly, leading to a more sustainable future in the beverage industry.
