Experience Art and Technology Colliding at NYCxDesign Week with an Industry-First Installation in Times Square

NORTH AMERICA—NEW YORK – May 2, 2018: Avery Dennison is powering one of the most eye-catching exhibits at Design Pavilion during this year’s NYCxDESIGN. The exhibit showcases the winning designs from the Bright New Things competition launched by the materials science and manufacturing company, to showcase the work of four young artists — and the innovative capabilities of Avery Dennison in a whole new way:

Event Date: May 12 – 20, 2018
Time: 11 AM – 9 PM, daily
Admission: Free

Bright New Things Take Times Square is the culmination of a global design competition, held by Avery Dennison in partnership with Arts Thread, in which students and recent graduates in art and design were invited to reimagine everyday household objects using Avery Dennison graphic materials. The objects the four winning artists reimagined are being showcased in a nine foot by nine foot cube as part of Design Pavilion. New VelaTM Dynamic Display System technology will turn the cube’s glass walls into a digital display screen, cycling between rich color and videos of our artists at work. At intervals, the walls will become transparent to reveal the art within. As visitors walk around the cube, Avery Dennison JanelaTM smart-products platform will enable smartphones to connect directly to the installation, encouraging a QR code match-up and scan challenge, to unlock spot prizes throughout the day.

In addition to the installation, Angus Mcguffin, Global Creative Director Avery Dennison, will  participate in two panel discussions on May 14. At 3 p.m., he will discuss Opportunities in Design, alongside Arts Thread co-founder Alex Brownless. Then, he will appear with Dalia Strum, a leader at the intersection of Fashion, Retail and Tech, talking about How has the merging of the physical and digital world impacted design?,, taking place at 4 p.m. at Durst Market Center, 4 Times Square, 21st Floor, New York, NY 10036.

The Bright New Things Takes Time Square will be lived streamed at http://www.averydennison.com/en/home/Campaign/bright-new-things.html during its entire run.
